Eager Reader
...is a PTA sponsored program for K through 5th grade students that encourages reading by offering fun prize incentives based on individual minutes read. This year’s program kicks off on March 1, Read Across America Day – celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday. It will run the entire month of March.
This year students will be able to track their reading minutes online through our website. Please help your child read through these instructions and log their reading minutes by Thursday morning of each week.
1. Starting Friday, March 1st, use the website to keep track of the minutes students spend either reading alone, reading to someone, or being read to.
2. Select the “Eager Reader” option from the left side menu bar or in the “Happenings” section.
The first time the student enters the site it will ask for our password. The answer is sharks
Students will not be asked for a password on subsequent visits from the same computer.
3. Each time a student submits their minutes, an e-mail will be sent to their parent(s) for approval. Minutes must be approved in order for students to receive prizes. Your child is free to proceed at their own pace and earn prizes accordingly. Minutes are tallied cumulatively, so students do not need to reach each goal by the end of each week. Some students will reach the first goals and some will exceed the final goal by the end of the month. Your child is encouraged to do his or her best job – reading makes everyone a winner!
4. Minutes need to be approved by each Thursday at noon for prize awards that week. The PTA will review the website reports weekly, and student will receive their prizes each Friday.
5. To encourage students to continue reading after they have earned the top prize level, we will be holding a grand prize raffle. Everyone who exceeds the top goal for their grade level will automatically be entered into the drawing.

Do we have to participate?
No – Eager Reader is a voluntary program.
What if we forget to log minutes by noon on Thursday?
No problem, just keep recording the minutes and students will receive all prizes earned the following week.
What if I forget to approve my child’s minutes by noon on Thursday?
Your child’s minutes will be counted the following week.
Do we have to use the website to report our minutes?
No. If the website program does not work for your family, you can elect to pick up a paper form outside the PTA office. Each week’s total minutes and parent signature on the paper form need to be turned in by Thursday morning to the PTA office to be eligible for Friday prizes.
